WATER REUSE
The need to conserve our precious water supplies has given rise to a heightened consciousness of water reuse technologies, including the latest in ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.
Calgon Carbon is a world leader in developing the latest technologies to make water reuse an effective approach to help meet future water supply needs.

Water Reuse Technologies & Solutions:

As a world leader in developing today’s water reuse technologies, Calgon Carbon is taking its proven technologies and applying them in this critical area. UV disinfection has been taken to a new level by combining UV with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide (advanced oxidation process/AOP), producing highly reactive hydroxyl radicals to oxidize organic contaminants in water. UV AOP is increasingly the process of choice for indirect potable reuse (IPR), where high-quality recycled water is injected into an aquifer used for drinking water. UV AOP is highly effective for abatement of nitrosamines, pharmaceutical products, personal care products and endocrine disrupters present in the wastewater.

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) is now being used in a variety of roles for both IPR and direct potable reuse (DPR). GAC has the ability to serve as the core of a DPR treatment train that can provide high quality potable reuse water for 50% of the cost and 50% of the carbon footprint of an equivalent reverse osmosis (RO) based treatment train. GAC can remove organic matter, endocrine disruptors, and pharmaceutical compounds, operating in either biological (BAC) or adsorptive mode.

Calgon Carbon is the only company able to combine its UV and GAC technologies to provide integrated water reuse treatment trains.
